Think Outside The Boss

 

    Thinking outside the box resulted in the best night of Freddie's life. Until she discovered the man she spent it with is her new boss.

     I decided to give Think Outside The Boss a try since it was a free read. In the past I've had both free reads that I loved and ones I couldn't even manage to finish. This one fell closer to the ladder, while I didn't not finish reading I also didn't love it. It was good for about forty percent of it but by the time I started reaching the halfway point I was just ready for the story to be over. 

Unspoken By: Sandi Lynn

      Her name was Ellie Scott, and she was the most beautiful woman Henry had ever seen. He was speechless the moment she looked at him when her stunning emerald eyes met his. It felt like time had stopped, and suddenly all was right in Henry's disheveled life. 

     They lived in different worlds. Henry's was a world of hearing, and hers was a world of silence. Yet, despite her being deaf, the chemistry between them was undeniable. But Henry faced two problems: the secret he held and his family. 

     Henry was born a Walker and came from a family of wealth and status. His parents would never approve of or accept her, and his mother would stop at nothing to keep them apart. They underestimated Henry because he would give up everything to be with her.

      Then everything went to hell when his ex-fiancee showed up with some news that threatened to tear them apart. 

      His life was finally right, and he wouldn't let anyone or anything destroy it. 

     Sandi recently released a new book so of course I had to read it. Unlike with the last book of hers that I read I enjoyed Unspoken the whole way through. I was really intrigued by the story between Ellie and Henry and never found myself not enjoying what I was reading. It's stories like Unspoken as the reason as to why I keep reading Sandi Lynn's books. Because while I may not like everything she writes, more often than not I find myself enjoying her stories and wanting to read them over and over again.

Dirty Like Me (Dirty #1) By: Jane Diamond

 

       Struggling barista Katie Bloom doesn't even know who Jesse Mayes is until she inadvertently wins the coveted role of sex kitten in his hot new music video. But by the time she's in bed with him, she knows his reputation. Love maker. Heartbreaker.

       Making out with a stranger in front of a camera crew isn't how Katie imagined herself getting over a broken heart, but when Jesse touches her, sparks fly. The sex is fake but the chemistry is real, and before long, the steamy video is blazing up the charts. 

       Then Jesse makes Katie a tantalizing offer: act as his girlfriend for six weeks while he promotes his new album. The only catch? Their sizzling make-out sessions will be for the cameras only. Which suites Katie just fine, since she's not about to trust her heart to rock's most legendary lover. Her body though? Maybe.

       As it turns out, pretending to fall in love is incredibly sexy...And falling in love for real, with a man she promised not to fall for? Irresistible.

     I thought I would like Dirty Like Me given how much I enjoyed the sample. But it was only once I getting more into the story that I found myself not enjoying it as much as I thought I would. Don't get me wrong it was a fine read but not one that I would want to read again or one that would make me want to continue on with this series. 

Quit Bein' Ugly (The Southern Gentlemen #3) By: Lani Lynn Vale

        There's a crush, and then there are the type of feelings that Croft Cruisie evokes from a person. He's everything that any straight woman would want: tall, handsome, charismatic, muscular, and sweet. At least, Carmichael thought he was sweet, until he brings another woman to the gym she owns with her brother, on the night that's to be their first date, and lets her know in a quick and painful, non-verbal way that her feelings are not reciprocated. Fast forward six months, and she's still trying to move on from the rejection. It doesn't help that the jerk moves in next door to her, and that she has to see him workout shirtless every single day. How can a woman get over a silly crush when that silly crush won't so much as give her room to breath?

        Croft doesn't know what happened. One day he was supposed to go on a date with the girl that wouldn't leave his thoughts for even a second, and the next she's avoiding him like the plague. No matter how hard he tries - and admittedly, it isn't all that hard due to the biggest case of his career taking over his life - and can't get her to tell him what he did wrong. She refuses to give him a second chance. At least, not until he's nearly killed in front of the courthouse, that is. The moment he sees his chance, he pounces. Or, more literally, he limps. But the limping is what draws Carmichael in. The Southern charm that was instilled in him since birth will be what gets her to stay. That's his plan, anyway. Funny thing about plans...they never seem to work out how you expect them to.

     I wasn't sure how much I was going to like this read but I thought why not just give it a try. And I was actually surprised with how much I liked reading Quit Bein' Ugly. Did I like it enough to read this story again, yes. And did I like it enough to want to read more books in this series, sadly no. While I did enjoy reading Croft and Carmichael's story there didn't seem to be another couple or person that jumped out at me that made me want to read their story and continue on with the series. 

Forever Lies (The Five Families #1) By:

      Stuck in an elevator with the most gorgeous man Alessia has ever seen - Who thought that kind of thing actually happened? This man wasn't just attractive; he was animal magnetism personified. He was every crush and craving - each desire and fantasy - all rolled into one.

      The problem? There was something sinister lurking beneath that tempting facade. Something dark and ruthless. 

      Luca Romano locked his sights on Alessia the moment those elevator doors closed. She couldn't escape him, no matter how hard she tried. There was a mutinous side of Alessia that didn't want to run. As if she ever had a choice...

      I find myself enjoying a good mafia romance book every now and then. Anytime I found one that sounds interestingly enough I like to try and give them a read whenever I can. And that's what happened with Forever Lies, it popped up on my suggest read list and sounded good enough so I thought why not? I'll tell you why not, Forever Lies just did not do it for me. What sounded good wasn't as good as I thought it would be and I found myself skimming through pages just to make it through. Needless to say I won't be continuing on with this series. 

Freed By: E L James

 

      Freed, is the sixth book in the Fifty Shades of Grey series and it's a retelling of the third book in the trilogy (Fifty Shades Freed) only it's told from Christian's point of view.    

      I have been waiting to read Freed since I first found out that E.L. James was rewriting the Fifty Shade Trilogy from Christian's point of view. And can I just say that Freed did not disappoint. I loved every minute of it and managed to finish this book in no time at all. There were a few scenes that I really enjoyed reading such as when Christian finds out of Ana's dad, what went on when Christian saw Elena again and finally when he learned the connection between him and Hyde. Overall, this whole retelling of the series was great and I will definitely be reading it again.

Amusement By: Albany Walker

      She's everything he shouldn't want, but exactly what he craves.

      Lucy bleeds innocence the way Rafe radiates darkness, but the moment she walked into his club, she became his. She just didn't know it. Rafe'll be the one to ruin her, and she will love every second of it.  

      Lucy's life seems rather simple from the outside. She's the devoted daughter of a former rodeo champion, but her boots are firmly planted in the dirt of their family ranch. She never wanted to follow in her mother's footsteps and perform in the arena. She's never craved the spotlight. But an accident changed everything. Now Lucy spends her nights on stage and her days in the barn. Dancing has paid the bills for the past two years, but no one knows her secret. Or so she thought. 

      I wanted to read Amusement as soon as I saw that Albany Walker had wrote the book and that's because of how much I enjoyed the last book of her's that I read. It was only once I started reading Amusement that I realize not only what it not what I thought it would be I apparently had built this book up in my head too much for what it actually was. But I guess that's what happens when you wait a while for a book to come out and all you have is your imagination to go with and not much to work with in terms of a synopsis.

The Invitation BY: Vi Keeland

      The first time Stella met Hudson Rothschild was at a wedding. She had received an unexpected invitation to one of the swankiest venues in the city. Hudson was a groomsman and quite possibly the most gorgeous man Stella had ever laid eyes on. He asked her to dance, and their chemistry was off the charts.  Stella knew it wasn't a good idea to get involved with him, considering the wedding she was at. But their connection was intense, and she was having a great time.

      Though the fun came to a screeching halt when Hudson figured out Stella wasn't who she said she was. You see, that unexpected invitation she received. Well, it hadn't actually been addressed to Stella - it was sent to her ex-roommate who'd bounced a check for two months' rent and moved out in the middle of the night, but she guessed, technically, she was crashing the wedding.

       Once caught, she couldn't get out of there fast enough. As Stella bolted for the door, she might've plucked a few bottle of expensive champagne off the tables she passed, all while the gorgeous, angry groomsman was hot on her tail.

        Outside, she jumped into a taxi. Her heart ricocheted against her ribs as they drove down the block-but at least she escaped unscathed. Or so Stella thought. Until she realized she'd left her cell phone behind at the table. Take one guess who found it.

      I knew I wanted to read The Invitation as soon as I read the synopsis and even more once I read the book's sample. It was only once I actually started reading the book that my option of it changed. I thought The Invitation was going to go one way but it ended up going in a completely different direction. So much so I found myself not only unable to get into this book but also unable to even finish reading it. I'm not even sure if I fully made it halfway through before I finally just gave up with the whole thing.

Baby Drama By: Sandi Lynn

        There are two things you need to know about Jenna: she's very independent and she's a genius. Literally, she's a genius. At least that's what her IQ score says. But even being a genius, mistakes are bound to happen. She is human, after all. It all started one night when a sexy billionaire bought her a drink and she accidentally tossed it all over his five-thousand-dollar suit. He tried to blame Jenna, but in actuality, it was his fault because of his lack of respect for her personal boundaries. Jenna offered to pay for his dry cleaning and gave him her number to let Jenna know how much it costs. He did, and they ended up spending the night together. Long story short, the condom broke, Jenna forgot to take her pill two days in a row and they mistakenly created a baby. Jenna never planned on telling him about the baby until she lost her job, and her landlord turned the apartments she lived in into condos. He told her he couldn't be a father, and she was okay with that. Jenna didn't need a man complicating her life. She was all set to embark on her journey as a single parent until...

         The only thing Lucas did was notice a beautiful woman and buy her a drink. A drink she carelessly spilled all over him and then had the nerve to say it was his fault. Lucas forgave her because he wanted her. At least for one night. Maybe he should have just forgotten about her and thrown her number away. But he didn't, and a mishap occurred during their one-night stand that resulted in a baby. Lucas wasn't father material, or maybe he was, but just didn't want to be. The last thing he needed in his life was baby drama. Lucas like his bachelor life the way it was, and Jenna was cool with that. She made it clear she didn't want to be involved. He was all set to continue on with his life as if nothing happened until...

         I've said it once and I'll say it again I either love the books Sandi Lynn writes or I don't there is no in between. And sadly Baby Drama leaned more towards the ladder. I wanted to like Baby Drama, I really did, but it just didn't make the cut. I couldn't get into the story of Jenna or Lucas but that won't stop me from reading other books by Sandi Lynn.

Sexy as Sin (Filthy Rich #2) By: Julie Kriss

     Second chances burn hotter.

     The assignment should be a fashion stylist's dream. Dane Scotland - brilliant programmer, millionaire, partner in her brother company - is going to a big-money meeting, and he needs to look the part.

     The problem? Dane doesn't want a makeover. He's grump and reclusive, and his wardrobe consist of two pairs of old jeans. He doesn't want Ava anywhere near him. Did I mention he's Ava's brother's best friend? And that no one knows exactly what Dane and Ava got up to ten years ago? 

     The nerd she knew was gone - Dane ditched his glasses and bulked up. Now he's six-foot-plus of hot genius, but Ava can be professional. She can definitely keep her hands off him. Again. But when he looks at Ava like he used to, like no one else ever has, the only thing she wants is to lose control. 

     Dane and Ava gave each other their first taste of heartbreak. Are they destined for another round?

     When I read this first book in this series I was on the fence with whether I liked it or not, but the same cannot be said for Sexy As Sin. While I did finish Sexy As Sin it won't be something that I'll read again. It just wasn't a book that really kept my interest and I was more than happy once this book was over. 

Touch Me Not By: Apryl Baker

     Since the death of her twin sister, Lily can't bear to be touched. Not accidentally, not casually...and certainly not intimately. If Lily overcomes her phobia, will she crave Adam's touch as she starting to crave Nikoli's? Or will she only find pleasure from the touch of a semi-reformed manwhore?

      

     When I first started reading Touch Me Not, I didn't think that I would actually enjoy this read. It was a book I got for free and didn't think much of it. But sometimes those are the books that while reading really get me interesting and Touch Me Not was one of those times.

Rebellious And Reckless (Campus Hotshots #1) By: Michelle Valentine

      Sky Cold knows exactly what she wants, and its Luke Finnegan, the college campus star quarterback. The only problem is she's not even a blip on his radar. In order to get noticed by her crush, she's willing to exchange the extra bedroom in her apartment to Luke's tattooed, older brother to find a way into his social circle. 

      Baker Finnegan is determined to get out of his father's shadow and do things his way. When he falls on hard times, and the sexy, slightly nerdy co-ed Sky offers him a place to live in exchange for a fake friendship, he can't pass up the opportunity. But when Baker quickly realizes the only match he wants to make for Sky is one with himself, he has to convince her to look past his reckless ways. 

      I enjoyed reading the first half of Rebellious and Reckless but by the time the second half of the book came around I wasn't as interested. I don't know what it was, I thought I was going to love this book and want to read it over and over again but then it was like what happened? It was almost like there was more included in this book that needed to be there. 

What If You By: Sandi Lynn

She accepted the fact that she would more than likely grow old alone, and she was okay with that. The more men got to know her, the faster they ran. Then she met Asher Remington under unusual circumstances. For him, it was unusual, but for Everly, it was the norm. Everly was sent to New York to convince him not to go through with a merger that would end up destroying him and the company his father worked so hard to build. He thought she was crazy until he discovered the truth. Everly's job was complete, and she needed to forget about him. But after spending one beautiful night together, it became impossible. The more time they spent together, the harder she fell. He was living in the shadow of a lie, only he didn't know it. If they were to have a chance together, he needed to know the truth, and he needed to put the past to rest.

       Everly King was crazy. She was the craziest yet most beautiful woman Asher had ever laid eyes on. They met under very unusual circumstances. She saved him from making what would have been the most destructive decision of Asher's life. He owed her. After spending one night with her. Asher craved more. Even though there were things about her that frightened him, Asher didn't want to stop seeing her. Then he let his guard down and feelings emerged. Asher couldn't allow it, and he needed to stick by the decision he had made several years ago after an incident determined the course of his life. He needed to forget about her and let her go. There was no "us" and there never would be. The problem was the fear he had inside was giving in and it tried to reason with Asher. It kept asking the same thing over and over: what if you.... 

       I always love whenever Sandi Lynn comes out with a new book because more often than not I find myself unable to put her books down and that's exactly what happened here. It's funny given the synopsis of What If You, I didn't think I was going to enjoy this read and only gave it a try because of who the author was. Well, color me surprised when I found myself not only enjoying this book but being unable to put it down and finishing it in practically one sitting. 

Signed (The Agency #1) By: Marni Mann

                                                      

       A one night with James Ryne, the hottest actress in LA as well as America's sweetheart, and Hollywood agent to the stars.

       It was a one night stand that Brett didn't think would happen again. For Brett given his worry about the age difference between him and James and would be scandal should the world find out about them was all too much for him. That being said, Brett does care about James and has this attraction for her. Things change when James ends up being a victim to a leaked online sex tape that threatens her career. After this happens, all her people except for her manager leave James, all her currents contracts are cancelled and worst of all Brett leaves James just when she needs him the most.

       Wanting to get her career back after spending some time wounded and beyond devastated James signs with a new agency. Imagine her surprise when she finds out that Brett is one of the heads of her new agency. Now James has to work with Brett in order to get her career back on track only he wants to keep their night together a secret as well as keep their relationship business professional only from here on out.

      I have had Signed in my to-read list for far too long, longer than I care to admit. Now having finally got around to reading Signed, I was surprised with how much I did find myself enjoying this book. Did I enjoy it enough to continue on with the series? Not really, but would I read this book again? I would, so I guess that's something for a book I got for free a long time ago and am only now reading.  

Lost Girl (Wolf Girl #2) By: Leia Stone

 

     Demi has just been kidnapped by vampires and Sawyer is under some type of love spell. Now Demi got to traipse through the entire Magic Lands without getting killed to make it back to Werewolf City...hopefully in one piece. 

     Everything would have worked out as planned if Sawyer hadn't gone on another revenge killing spree in Demi's honor. Now the entire magical world is at war, and Demi and her True Mate are stuck in the middle of it. 

     It's just another Monday. 

     While the first book in this series pulled me in right from the beginning the same cannot be said for Lost Girl. While I did enjoy reading Lost Girl I found myself not being as into it as I was for the first book in this series. Don't get me wrong I still plan on reading the next book in this series and I know I will want to read these books again, I just know this one won't hold my attention as well as its predecessor. 

Shattered Souls (The Harkwright Trilogy #3) By: B C Morgan

      Maybe if she says it enough Luna will believe that she's ready for year three. It's nearly upon them, and Luna's not even sure that will be the most worrying thing she will have to face. Luna may be free from one of the Harkwrights, but another is taking his place. A wildcard and mystery. Whether he's better or worse than the one he's replacing remains to be seen. 

      If she keeps baking Luna might succeed in fooling herself into believing she is safe. That everything that has happened in the past two years was just a nightmare. But really that's just wishful thinking, because there are some things even fresh bread and homemade cakes cannot fix. 

      Luna has a lot of things to consider and she doesn't know where to begin. From facing the way she feels, to questioning every belief she holds. Luna doesn't know who she will be when she comes out of this, or where her path will finally lead. 

      One thing Luna knows for sure, she's not the same girl she was when she first entered the Academy, she's stronger, and hopefully wiser. She's come this far and she will see it through. 

      I have been waiting with anticipation to read the conclusion of the Harkwright Trilogy and I want to start out by saying I was not prepared for how long this conclusion was going to be. When I opened the book and saw that it was over 600 pages I was surprise but I was also ready to begin. Since Shattered Souls is so long I held off on reading right away because I knew it would take longer to read and I wanted to make sure it had my undivided attention. Now having finished both this book and this series I can say I am in love with this series and will be reading these books over and over again.

Sex, Not Love By: Vi Keeland

      Natalia's relationship with Hunter Delucia started backwards. 

      They met at a wedding - him sitting on the groom's side, her sitting on the bride's. Stealing glances at each other throughout the night, there was no denying an intense, mutual attraction. 

      Natalia caught the bouquet; he caught the garter. Hunter held Natalia tightly while they danced and suggested they explore the chemistry sparking between them. His blunt, dirty mouth should've turned Natalia off. But for some crazy reason, it had the opposite effect on her.

      The two ended up back in Natalia hotel room. The next morning, she headed home to New York leaving him behind in California with the wrong number.

       Natalia thought about Hunter often, but after her last relationship, she'd sworn off of charming, cocky, gorgeous-as-sin men. A year later, Hunter and Natalia met again at the birth of their friends' baby. Their attraction hadn't dulled one bit. After a whirlwind trip, he demanded a real phone number this time. So she left him with her mother's - she could scare away any man with her talk of babies and marriage - and flew back home. 

       Natalia thought it was funny, until the following week when he rang the bell at her Mom's house for Sunday night dinner. The crazy, gorgeous man had won over her mother and taken an eight-week assignment in her city. He proposed they spend that time screwing each other out of their systems. 

       Eight weeks of mind-blowing sex with no strings attached? What did Natalia have to lose?

       Nothing, she thought. It's just sex, not love. But you know what they say about the best laid plans...

     

       By now, I've read a few books by Vi Keeland and while I loved her books at in the beginning, I can't say the same about the few books of hers that I have read recently. Sex, Not Love started off good enough it just wasn't enough to keep me interested as the story continued. If this continues I might have to stop reading books by her altogether and that would be a shame because like I said I did like her stories at first. I think I'll give Vi Keeland's books a few more tries before I just give up entirely.

The Doctor (Nashville Neighborhood #1) By: Nikki Sloane

       For years, he was a part of Cassidy's life. She watched him rush to the hospital countless times, his beautiful surgeon hands racing to saves lives. After all this time, she can't escape the truth. Cassidy wants Dr.Lowe. 

       Lust chokes each moment they're together. He promises to fulfill her fantasies - every dirty, naughty desire they can dream up. Only, Cassidy can't have him. 

       He's confident. Experienced. Seductive. 

       And he's Cassidy's ex-boyfriend's father. 

       I wasn't really sure what to think of The Doctor, but it was a cheap and quick read so I thought why not give it a try. I did end up enjoying the read. While it wasn't something that I would say I loved reading,  would I read The Doctor again? Sure, but I think I'll only be reading this book in the Nashville Neighborhood series.

The Rivals By: Vi Keeland

        The feud between Weston Lockwood and Sophia Sterling started at the altar. Only neither of them attended the wedding, and the nuptials happened decades before either of them were born. 

       Their grandfathers had been best friends and business partners, at least up until Sophia's grandfather's wedding day - when his bride-to-be blurted out she couldn't marry him because she was also in love with Weston's grandfather. 

      The two men spent years fighting over Grace Copeland, who also happened to be their third business partner. But in the end, neither man could steal half of her heart away from the over. Eventually, they all went their separate ways. Weston and Sophia's grandfathers married other women, and the two men became one of the biggest rivals in history. 

     Their fathers continued the family tradition of feuding. And then Weston and Sophia did, too. For the most part, they kept as much distance as possible. Until the day the woman who started the feud died - and unexpectedly left one of the most valuable hotels in the world to their grandfathers to share. 

      Now Sophia's stuck in a hotel with the man she was born to hate, trying to unravel the mess their families inherited. 

      As usual, it didn't take long for Weston and Sophia to be at each other's throats. 

      Weston Lockwood was everything Sophia hated: tall, smart, cocky, and too gorgeous for his own good. They were fire and ice. But that shouldn't be an issue. Their families were used to being at war. There was just one minor problem, though. Every time Weston and Sophia fought, they somehow wound up in bed. 

     When I first read the synopsis of The Rivals I knew this would be a book that I would want to read and that was only confirmed once I read the book's sample. But once I started reading and really getting into this book I wasn't as into it as I originally thought I would be. The more I kept reading the harder it was to continue. I actually only kept reading because I did pay for this book and I wanted to make sure that my opinion wouldn't chance as the story progressed, it didn't and I won't be reading this book again. 

Wolf Girl (Wolf Girl #1) By: Leia Stone

       When her parents were banished from Wolf City before Demi was born, she thought there was no way she would ever live in a pack again. Cuffed, with her shifter magic bound, Demi was forced to go to school with witches and vampires in order to keep her true nature from coming out. 

       Then she met him. 

       Sawyer Hudson. The alpha's son was visiting the Delphi College for Magically Banished Youth and spotted Demi. He took one look at her, and an hour later, she was being pulled out of school, taken into Wolf City and leaving her parents and everything she knew behind. 

       It's the Alpha's son's selection year, the year he must pick a mate, and every female aged 18-22 must be in attendance.

       Demi has landed herself in the middle of Werewolf Bachelor, and just when Demi thinks she's got a handle on things, Sawyer releases her cuffs, unbinds her magic, and sees what Demi really is. 

       The problem is, Demi doesn't know what this creature is that she transforms into. It's not an ordinary werewolf, that's for damn sure. 

        I had read the synopsis of Wolf Girl before it came out and immediately put it in my want to read list because it sounded so interesting. Once it was release I downloaded the book immediately and oh my god, I was not prepared to be so sucked in. I managed to finish reading Wolf Girl in one day, I would have done it in one sitting but because I wasn't expecting much going in I started reading before I went to sleep thinking I would start with a chapter or two in but I just did not want to stop.
