Promise Me Darkness by:Paige Weaver

(Nicole) I don't know what I thought this book would be about when I started reading it but it was nowhere near what I imagined it to be about. At first I thought the darkness that it talks about in the title refered to the fact that Ryder Delaney was a bad boy but not just any type of bad boy. That type of guy that your parents told you to stay away from. But it was really nothing like that and only after reading less than half of the book I wasn't so sure that I even wanted to continue reading.

(spoiler) And then I did continue reading and what I got confused the hell out of me. I thought that it would just be the about a relationship between Ryder and Maddie. Then all of a sudden in the middle of the book they're at a club and the ground shacks and the lights go out. Come to find out the darkness is because the U.S. was bomb on their electrical grid causing the country to go into complete darkness. Now Ryder, Maddie and two of her friends have to travel on foot through the hot Texas desert to get back home to their families. Along the way they run into criminals who rob them for their food, water, and car. By the end of the trip they all make it back home to their family Maddie stays with Ryder's family along with her father. While staying together Maddie and Ryder's relationship is rocky with  a repeated on and off cycle.
What I didn't like about this book was that it really freaked me out. It didn't help that I was reading this book at night in my room with the lights off. It made me start thinking about the what ifs. What if this actually happened? What if we had to go back to the stone age where everyone had to live off of the land without any electricity and everyone fighting each other for food?
